Together we recorded 10,843 items of branded packaging pollution across beaches, mountains, rivers, streets, woodlands and green spaces.
Our findings show that over 70% of these items come from some of the world’s most powerful, profitable and influential companies.
We call them the "Dirty Dozen".
It’s time for these global companies to step up and take responsibility for the pollution they are putting into the environment and help positively influence consumer behaviour.” - SAS

Made by our community
Our forest contains 359 paper trees and one reindeer! Every tree was made by a member of our community from old scripts donated by Stephen Joseph Theatre. Throughout November we ran weekly papercraft workshops at Scarborough Library and the Old Parcels Office in which we invited people to come and build with us. We also ran outreach workshops with local scouts, guides, and refugee groups. In total over 450 helped build Grue.

Looking Back
Our Television featured in last years installtion as a window from a living room into a distant forest. We've recreated the same scene in miniture this year in the Bureau.
In 2021, we decided that our town needed an alternative Christmas experience, and our vision was a highly ambitious, immersive and interactive cardboard labyrinth built from reclaimed cardboard. As luck would have it, The Old Parcel Office Artspace kindly offered their venue for the project, a perfect blank canvas to fill with our cardboard world. With over 300 participants from our local community building with us, we realised this dream together. The installation was a huge success attracting interest and visitors from across the UK.
"8.7% of our visitors came from outside of the region, representing considerable investment from their perspective, both in time and money. We know from speaking to a number of these visitors that the coverage on BBC Radio 4 Front Row, coupled with the images, is what inspired them to come. We believe Grue has hit a 'sweet spot' between commercial, Christmas event and high quality art installation. It appeals to families who might not usually look for culture, as well as those who would be keen on it." - Rach Drew, ARCADE
